Rénoclimat: the complete guide to the program
How the program works, what it covers, and why the energy assessment has to come before the work.

Rénoclimat is Quebec's main assistance program for energy efficient renovation. How it works often catches people off guard: it isn't a grant you apply for afterward, it's a process that starts before the first nail goes in.
The assessment comes first, no exceptions
An advisor visits your home, measures its current energy performance and produces a report with recommendations. That visit has to happen before work begins. Without an initial assessment there's no baseline, so no assistance, even if the work itself was perfectly eligible. It's the number one reason files are rejected.
What the program covers
Insulation of attics, walls, foundations and floors. Replacing doors and windows with Energy Star certified models. Heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Air sealing of the building envelope.
The amounts
Assistance can reach $3,750 for a complete set of insulation work. Replacing doors and windows with Energy Star certified models qualifies for $150 per opening. Amounts depend on the performance gains actually measured, not on what the work cost: two jobs at the same price can produce two different amounts.
The second assessment
Once the work is done, the advisor returns to measure the gains. That second visit is what triggers the calculation. Keep your itemized invoices and the spec sheets for the materials and equipment installed, the advisor needs them.
The amounts and conditions here are the ones published by the program and may change. Check the official Rénoclimat page on quebec.ca before committing to any expense.
